OAuGF Trains Staff on GIFMIS for Improved Service Delivery

The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation (OAuGF) in seizing the opportunity provided by the Government Integrated Financial and Management Information Systems (GIFMIS), to upscale its service delivery in the audit of public funds expended by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), has embarked on a six-weeks training to equip staff with necessary information on how best to utilize the platform.

The GIFMIS, which takes into cognizance all steps in the expenditure cycle - budget appropriations, financing limits, commitments, verification and payment transactions - is aimed at using automated and integrated information management systems to improve the acquisition, allocation, utilisation and conservation of public financial resources.

Flagging off the first batch of training in Abuja on Tuesday November 12, 2019, the Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr. Anthony Mkpe Ayine, said the programme provides an opportunity for auditors to improve the quality of their work in a seamless and efficient manner and urged participants to take the exercise seriously.

“We can only deliver quality service to the people of Nigeria when we are properly trained and equipped,” he emphasized.

The GIFMIS will allow government to undertake central control and monitoring of expenditure and receipts in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, increase the ability to access information on financial and operational performance, as well as increase internal controls to prevent and detect potential and actual fraud, among other benefits.

This will in turn aid strategic management of public financial resources for enhanced accountability, transparency, cost effective public service delivery, economic growth and poverty reduction efforts of the federal government.

A total of 80 staff have been earmarked to participate in the first batch of the training which will end on Saturday.
