The Auditor-General for the Federation (AuGF), Mr. Anthony Mpke Ayine has expressed delight on plans by World Bank Group to use the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation (OAuGF) for its procurement audit.
The plan was revealed when a team from World Bank led by the lead procurement specialist, Chief Bayo Awosemusi and his team paid the AuGF a visit.
The Auditor-General expressed joy at the prospect and stated that it is a plus for the office. According to him the plans of the World Bank is in line with his thinking of what he believes procurement and the value of procurement should be.
Mr. Ayine stated that the assignment will enable the Office to professionalize procurement audit. It will also avail the Office the opportunity of getting exposure and training in international best practices.
The Auditor-General acknowledged that the assignment will further place the Office in a position to compare favorably in the world on audit work. He therefore gave assurances of the Office’s willingness to take up the assignment and discharge the work with diligence and responsibility.
Earlier in his speech the World Bank Group led by its Lead Procurement Specialist Chief Bayo Awosemusi acknowledged that the OAuGF is a partner in progress and expressed the willingness of World Bank Group to partner with the office in procurement audit.
According to Chief Awosemusi the World Bank has seen the impact of the Office in the area of good governance in Nigeria hence the readiness of World Bank to collaborate with the office for capacity building. He revealed that World Bank will organize procurement workshop for staff of OAuGF to train them on how to do procurement review of World Bank and the Bank’s finance projects.
The Bank chief affirmed the belief in the capacity of the Office to live up to expectation and deliver on the audit work.
According to Chief Awosemusi the World Bank will be ready and willing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Office after the necessary training and the assurance of the capacity of the staff of the OAuGF to deliver on set objectives.
