    THE 2022 AFROSAI-E TECHNICAL CONFERENCE

The African Organisation of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) held her Annual Technical Conference from the 18th to 20th October 2022 in Pretoria, South Africa. The conference was an invaluable knowledge and experience sharing networking event for the 26 Member Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and development partners with mandates to promote public sector accountability and good financial governance.

The event was a launchpad for new technical guidance material, an opportunity for member-SAIs to give feedback on implementation successes and challenges and a platform to recognize excellence and the achievements of member-SAIs.

In an Introduction to panel discussion on Auditing of Sustainable Development goals, the country host and the Auditor-General of South Africa, Ms. Tsakani Maluleke said that member-SAIs are empowered to optimize their Audit performance to comply with the INTOSAI Standards for Supreme Audit Institutions and to strengthen their institutional capacity to effectively implement their mandates. She also highlighted some priority areas for future Performance Audits with direct correlation to service delivery which are: Education, Health, and water.

Also, in a session on “Becoming a Data-Driven SAI”, various SAIs were able to share experiences regarding their strategic vision, where Data analytics are required from all audit staff during an Audit process. Having identified the data universe and established office needs, SAIs may set up processes for data collection and management. This will govern how, when, and what data the SAI collects from various government departments and how it is utilized to provide timely information to the public.

The highlights of the program included paper presentations, panel discussions, Exhibition workshops, and awarding excellence, from which a former Auditor-General for the Federation, Nigeria, Mr. Ayine Anthony Mkpe, was given an Award as part of his contribution to the development of Public Sector Auditing.
