Due to the increasing challenges and exogenetic factors that bedevil the Nigerian economy every passing year, the Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr. Samuel Ukura, FCA is calling on all Stakeholders in the Nigerian economy to acquaint themselves with current international Audit best practices in line with Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) Nigeria constitutional mandate to better the nation’s economy.
This has become imperative because these emerging issues like Environmental pollution and Degradation, Oil Spill, Gas Flaring, Flood Devastation etc. are greatly impacting on the revenue generation of the country and by extension, budgetary provisions and implementation.
In furtherance of this pursuit, the Office of the Auditor-General organized a 3-day retreat between the Public Accounts Committees of the National Assembly, External Stakeholders and the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation, to give the attendees the opportunity to interact and fashion out best ways to execute the SAI constitutional mandate.
The 3-day workshop discussed economic issues bordering on Debt Management, Regularity Audit, Performance Audit, and Independence of audit institutions. Facilitators were drawn from professionals and stakeholders in the Financial and Auditing Sector.
Meanwhile, the SAI Nigeria has signed Memoranda of Understanding with several nations and organisations including Namibia, German Agency for International Corporation (GIZ), Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation (CCAF), Ghana, etc to train staff on emerging trends and developments in Auditing.
