The Public Hearing on a Bill for an Act to repeal the Audit Ordinance Act of 1956 and re-enact the Audit Act of 2014 took place on 4th November 2014 at the House of Representatives in Abuja.
At the hearing, the Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr Samuel Ukura noted that the growth and sustenance of the country’s economy is tied to the effectiveness and autonomy of the National Audit Office. He regretted that the current Audit Act is defective and unsuitable for the time.
In attendance at the hearing were the Speaker House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal, members of the Committee on Public Accounts and Justice of the House of Representatives, Directors of the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation, members of the press and the general public.
